Tropical Storm Arlene First of the 2011 Hurricane Season

Tropical Storm Arlene has formed in the southwest Gulf of Mexico in the Bay of Campeche. The official intensity forecast shows Arlene approaching hurricane strength at landfall, prompting a Hurricane Watch to be issued for a portion of the coast of northeastern Mexico. Given the large size of Arlene's circulation one should not focus on the exact forecast track as impacts will likely be felt over a large portion of northeastern Mexico well away from the center. This image was taken by GOES-East at 1345Z on June 29, 2011.
