A Report Card for the Arctic

Surface temperatures in the Arctic were much warmer than average for the first decade of the 21st century, as shown in this image. The image uses data from the NCEP Reanalysis (provided by NOAA/ESRL) from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2010 and compares the average daily surface temperature values to the 1971-2000 long-term mean. This analysis is just one part of the recently released 2012 Arctic Report Card. Highlights of the Report Card along with other visualizations can be found on Climate.gov.
