Heavy Snowfall from Strong Winter Storm

The midwest and Great Plains states are digging out from heavy snow that has fallen over the past few days. This image from the NASA/NOAA Suomi NPP satellite's VIIRS instrument taken around 1920Z on December 21, 2012 shows snow on the ground as clear skies trail in the wake of the winter storm now moving east into the Great Lakes and Central Appalachians regions.
