Mountain Fire Spreads in California

The Mountain Fire is spreading rapidly through dense chaparral and timber in steep and rugged terrain in the southern portion of the San Jacinto Wilderness along the Desert Divide. Homes and businesses in Bonita Vista and Pine Springs have been destroyed with the fire only 10% contained. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Andreas Canyon Club in Palm Springs. This image was taken by the Suomi NPP satellite's VIIRS instrument around 2125Z on July 16, 2013. An unannotated version of this image can be found here.
