Devastating Flooding in the Balkans

The extent of flooding in the Balkans in recent days can be seen from this comparison image from the Suomi NPP satellite's VIIRS instrument. The top image was taken around 1050Z on May 7, 2014, and the bottom image around 1207Z on May 19, 2014. Among others, the Sava River has flooded extensively throughout Serbia and Bosnia leading to the United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator to begin rallying the international community for support amidst this developing, widespread humanitarian crisis.
