California Wildfires Quickly Expand October 9, 2017

This sequence of GOES-16 channel 7 infrared 15 minute images shows wildfire development over 10 hours and 45 minutes starting at 0445 UTC October 9, 2017 (9:45 pm PDT October 8). The black areas, along with the transient white pixels, are the heat signatures generated by the active fires and burned areas.

Please note: NOAA's GOES-16 satellite has not been declared operational and its data are preliminary and undergoing testing.
